President Trump considers expanding war as Pentagon identifies soldiers killed in Iran
Reported from the White House, President Trump is mulling over the idea of deploying more U.S. military aircraft to the Middle East, potentially escalating the conflict with Iran. The Pentagon has confirmed the identities of two service members who lost their lives in a recent attack: Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Private 1st Class Isabella Gonzalez. Since July 7, nearly 100 military personnel have sustained injuries, primarily from mild concussions, as gasoline prices rise to $4 at the national level.
On Tuesday, the Army announced that Sgt. Michael Emanuel Swinton, 30, from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was killed during an attempt to neutralize an Iranian attack drone that had been downed at an air base in Iraq.
Swinton, associated with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC), was killed while conducting a controlled detonation of a downed one-way unmanned aircraft system at Erbil Air Base, with an ongoing investigation into the incident.
Trump expressed on Truth Social, “Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay the price for that killing many times over!” He indicated that this directive had been communicated to various military leaders.
This marks the 17th death within the U.S. military attributed to the ongoing conflict with Iran, including casualties from both targeted attacks and other operational incidents.
USASMDC’s commander, Lt. Gen. John L. Lafferty, expressed sorrow over Swinton’s loss, stating, “His service will not be forgotten and his sacrifice will not be in vain.” Swinton’s commitment is expected to inspire others as they continue their mission.
Central Command noted the unexploded ordnance involved was linked to an Iranian drone strike. Another service member was injured and subsequently treated during the explosion.
Swinton was part of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Brig. Gen. John L. Dover highlighted his dedication and pride in his work, acknowledging his courageous service.
The conflict escalated with the deaths of Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, and Isabella Gonzalez, 19, both caught in the renewed hostilities as U.S. and allied forces defend against Iranian missile and drone assaults.
Central Command reported that another service member remains unaccounted for, with speculation from Trump that this individual may also have been killed.
On Sunday, Trump remarked on the military actions, emphasizing that those sacrifices were made to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The United States has been actively engaging in Operation Epic Fury against Iran since February 28, targeting various military installations as a response to violations related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Currently, over 50,000 U.S. troops are deployed throughout the Middle East.
