On August 27, a shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school followed a violent 24-hour period in the city, where other innocent lives had already been lost before the attackers specifically targeted schoolchildren.
Reports indicate that three individuals were shot and killed in Minneapolis during the afternoon of August 26 and into the morning of August 27.
Around 8:30am on the 27th, the assailants struck at the Catholic school, opening fire on children attending Mass.
Honestly, it’s frustrating! The mayor of Minneapolis put out a statement offering thoughts and prayers for the victims of this tragic shooting.
The incident was noted as “the fourth major shooting within a 24-hour period.”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed the issue of gun violence after the initial three shootings.
Following the school shooting, O’Hara reiterated concerns, describing the attack as “deliberate acts of violence against innocent children and others who were praying.” He also commended the quick actions of the staff, mentioning that they acted heroically to protect students.
Despite Minnesota having a number of gun control measures in place, these have not been effective in preventing such incidents, culminating in the assault on the school. Reports state that Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz is advocating for stricter gun control following these events.
