Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey responded on Friday to newly released cellphone footage showing the shooting death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. The video, obtained by Alpha News, captures an intense interaction between Good and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, during which Good was shot while sitting in the driver’s seat of his car.
The footage also highlights Good’s wife, who can be seen provoking the agents from outside the vehicle.
In a segment aired on ABC’s “World News Tonight,” Frey appeared largely unmoved after viewing the video, which was presented to him by correspondent Whit Johnson. Frey noted, “He walked away hopping from the incident. There’s another dead person. He was holding his cell phone. I think that says it all.”
When asked if the video changed his perspective on the incident, Frey replied, “I think the investigation may change or confirm my view.” He added, “But all I see are two eyes and a person trying to leave. You can see the ICE agent who didn’t get hit by the car. That didn’t happen.”
Earlier in the week, Frey had swiftly rejected claims from the Trump administration that the ICE agents acted in self-defense, dismissing them as “bullshit” and calling for ICE to “get them out of Minneapolis.”
The shooting has sharply divided opinions, with the Trump administration alleging that Good attempted to ram his car into the officers, while others argue that he was trying to back away and that the agents used excessive force.
New footage shows ICE agents approaching Good’s vehicle, with him saying, “It’s okay, dude. I’m not mad.”
As the altercation unfolded, one agent repeatedly instructed Good to exit the car. When Good’s wife attempted to enter through the passenger side, he urged her to “drive, drive,” as he shifted the car into reverse.
When the vehicle moved forward, an agent exclaimed “oops” just before a gunshot was heard. Subsequently, as the car collided with a parked vehicle, a muffled noise was perceived on the video, but it was difficult to discern.
