Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejects ICE video of Renee Good's shooting

Minneapolis Mayor Responds to Controversial City Shooting Video

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, addressed the recent emergence of cellphone footage related to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. The video, which surfaced through Alpha News, shows a tense encounter between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and Good, who was killed while in front of a vehicle his wife was inside.

During a segment on ABC’s “World News Tonight,” Frey appeared largely unshaken as he viewed the footage. “He walked away from the incident hopping on his feet. There’s another person who died. He was holding his cell phone. I think that says it all,” Frey remarked when shown the video by correspondent Whit Johnson.

Johnson later asked if the video’s perspective altered Frey’s understanding of the situation. He replied, “I think as the investigation progresses, my view may change or be affirmed,” emphasizing that it was clear that the ICE agent wasn’t hit by the car.

On Wednesday, Frey strongly rejected claims from the Trump administration suggesting that ICE agents acted in self-defense, labeling those assertions as “bullshit” and demanding the removal of ICE from Minneapolis.

The incident has fueled national debate over the shooting, with differing opinions on whether Good attempted to accelerate her car towards an ICE officer. Supporters contend she was merely trying to drive away, while critics argue there was an excessive use of force involved.

Footage also captures Good reassuring the agents, saying, “It’s okay, dude. I’m not mad.” His wife can be heard teasing one of the agents, which adds a layer of tension to the unfolding scene.

As the situation escalated, Good’s wife made a move to enter the vehicle, urging him to “drive, baby, drive.” As the vehicle moved, a gunshot rang out, followed by a startled response from the agents present.
