Minneapolis Mayor Mocks ICE Officer’s Injuries
During a news conference on Friday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey openly ridiculed the hip injuries reported by ICE officers, brushing aside the federal government’s rationale for their actions and suggesting that the claims were exaggerated. This came amidst ongoing assertions from federal officials that one officer was injured when a suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle.
Frey, invoking tactics from Saul Alinsky, particularly Rule #5, downplayed the officer’s injury by comparing it to something trivial, like what might occur if someone slammed a refrigerator door. “The ICE officer walked away with a lower back injury when he closed the refrigerator door…he was not injured,” he told reporters, casting doubt on the seriousness of the federal report.
His remarks seemed to trivialize not just the injuries sustained by ICE agents—which were confirmed by federal officials—but also the safety concerns raised by Trump administration officials. ICE representatives stated that their use of force was warranted after one agent was struck by the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest.
Frey claimed that the limited footage he has seen did not substantiate the official narrative. His statements echoed previous remarks from city officials who have consistently challenged the federal government’s account of the incident.
However, newly released video appears to show the suspect accelerating towards the ICE officer, seemingly corroborating the Department of Homeland Security’s claims of contact or near-contact between the vehicle and the officer.
Mayor Frey’s comments seem aimed at discrediting the federal law enforcement personnel sent to the city, enhancing the already strained relationship between local leadership and federal immigration authorities. His tone—derisive and dismissive—suggests he perceives the federal reports as exaggerated or politically motivated.
It’s worth noting that the woman involved in the incident put herself in a precarious position, fully aware of the ongoing federal enforcement operation. Unfortunately, her actions appear to stem from a desire for viral fame rather than careful consideration.
As the investigation continues, experts are working to clarify the exact sequence of events. Some commentators, like Randy Clark from Breitbart, argue that this situation is being exploited to distract from ongoing fraud issues in Minnesota.
Clark noted that this case presents an opportunity for the left to overshadow serious concerns about fraud in the state, paralleling past distractions used by Democrats.
As a veteran of the U.S. Border Patrol, Clark discussed the ICE use-of-force policy, asserting that labeling the incident as murder reflects a skewed perception rooted in political bias.
In the current political climate, strategies that reflect Alinsky’s principles are evidently in play, showcasing the ongoing tensions in Minneapolis.
