Minneapolis police announced late Thursday that they have arrested a suspect in a mass shooting that left four people dead and another injured. The suspect, 34-year-old James Ortley, was identified by Police Chief Brian O’Hara during a press conference that evening.
Tragically, one of the injured individuals passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital, according to police reports.
In a separate incident, a shooting at a popular tourist destination in Myrtle Beach resulted in one death and left 11 others injured.
Ortley is believed to be responsible for initiating six different shootings within a violent 24-hour period, resulting in six fatalities and five injuries. Investigators are exploring the possibility of connections among the various incidents.
Authorities do not consider the shooting on Tuesday night—where Ortley faces charges—as a random act. They’re also examining whether additional individuals were involved in the mass shooting.
Reports indicate that Ortley was taken into custody around 3:30 PM local time and faces allegations stemming from a federal warrant related to firearm possession.
In February, he was previously arrested on suspicion of being involved in a violent robbery in Minneapolis, but he was held without charges for a period, according to online records.
