ICE Officer Charged for Pointing Gun at Civilian in Minnesota
Gregory Morgan Jr., an ICE officer, is facing felony charges in Minnesota. He allegedly pointed a gun at two civilians during rush hour traffic. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has issued a nationwide arrest warrant, bringing up important questions about the level of immunity federal agents might have under state law.
Workplace Shooting Incident in Minnesota
A Minnesota man, Mohamed A. Khaled, has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for shooting and killing a colleague. This incident occurred after he reportedly told a co-worker, “nobody’s going home today,” before the confrontation. Khaled, 26, received a sentence of 128 months following his guilty plea to second-degree unintentional murder for the death of 22-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim Khalif earlier this year, as confirmed by the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.
The shooting took place on June 29, 2024, in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center in Lakeville, Minnesota, where Khaled, Khalif, and another colleague were carpooling for a night shift.
Details from the criminal complaint reveal that the conflict began during a break when Khaled noticed a missing flashlight attachment for a gun that had been left in the car they were all using. While Khaled accused both Khalif and the other colleague of taking the attachment, they denied any involvement.
After several hours, the trio returned to the vehicle during another break, continuing their search for the missing item. There was a suggestion to involve security, but instead, Khaled accused the others again of withholding it. He was quoted saying, “No. You took my flashlight. I want my flashlight back. No one is going home today.”
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed the individuals separating before a second altercation ensued. During this confrontation, Khaled brandished a handgun, leading to a chaotic series of events.
Witnesses indicated that Khalif, attempting to grab the gun, inadvertently led to the first shot, which hit a nearby vehicle. After that, both Khalif and a witness shouted in alarm, “Don’t shoot!” Unfortunately, Khaled fired another shot, fatally hitting Khalif in the chest. An autopsy later revealed that the bullet struck critical areas of Khalif’s body, including his heart and lungs.
Investigators noted that footage showed Khaled had an opportunity to back away from the situation but chose not to, which ultimately led to the tragic conclusion. Initially charged with second-degree intentional homicide, he later pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder while committing a felony.
Kathy Keena, the Dakota County Attorney, described the killing as senseless, asserting that it was “incredibly stupid” for someone to lose their life over something so trivial. She emphatically stated that “deadly gun violence has no place in our communities, our neighborhoods, and our workplaces.” Khaled has already served 700 days and will remain in custody until transferred to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
