ICE Agents Save Drowning Child in Minnesota

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently praised two off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who heroically saved the life of a 4-year-old boy who was unresponsive after nearly drowning in a hotel pool.

Last week, while dining in a Plymouth, Minnesota restaurant, the agents heard a “panicked woman” calling for help regarding a child who had lost consciousness after falling into a pool. Authorities reported that the agents immediately began CPR on the child, who was without vital signs at the time. Local police and emergency medical responders arrived around three minutes later to assist.

DHS praised the swift actions of the agents, stating that thanks to their immediate medical care, the child regained consciousness and was alert. They received a letter from the Plymouth Police Department commending their professionalism in what was described as a “horrific incident.”

According to the police report, it took around ten minutes of CPR before the child began breathing on his own. The boy later shared that he had jumped into the pool to retrieve a toy.

The letter highlighted how crucial the first few minutes of emergency intervention can be in preventing potentially tragic outcomes. It noted the effectiveness and composure of the agents in the chaotic situation.

The police department expressed gratitude for the agents’ capabilities, emphasizing their commendable performance in a stressful environment. DHS Assistant Secretary Loren Biss also applauded the officers for their quick response, stating that without them, the situation could have ended in tragedy. “Our agents are the best of the best,” Biss added.

DHS encouraged the public to acknowledge law enforcement officers for their service, underlining support from the Trump administration for those who protect the community.

This incident comes amid heightened scrutiny on Minnesota due to Operation Metro Surge, which saw many federal immigration officers dispatched to the state to enforce immigration laws. Tensions have increased following two separate incidents where Minneapolis residents were fatally shot after confronting law enforcement.

Following an announcement from the White House that local officers were collaborating with federal agents, the Trump administration called for an immediate end to Operation Metro Surge. However, ICE maintains a presence in the Twin Cities, with many agents still stationed in the region.

Typically, DHS focuses on apprehending “the worst of the worst” offenders, affirming the administration’s commitment to removing individuals who do not belong in the country.
