Father Charged in Infant Son’s Death

A father in Minnesota faces charges following the tragic death of his infant son, who suffocated after being left under a weighted blanket for several hours. Omni Max Morningstar, 26, reportedly told police he “should have checked sooner” when asked about the incident.

According to police reports, Morningstar was online chatting with friends when his 10-month-old son, Remington, suffocated last October in their Mankato home. He allegedly failed to check on the baby for nearly five hours, during which time the child’s body temperature dangerously rose to 104.7 degrees.

Morningstar recounted to authorities that he had placed his son down for a nap at around 11 a.m. on October 1, 2025, only to discover the infant unresponsive later that day. He called for help at approximately 3:55 p.m.

Despite efforts by first responders to revive the child, Remington was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Morningstar expressed regret, saying he wished he had monitored his son better.

The complaint outlines that Morningstar had been using heavy bedding for months, motivated by the infant’s history of fever and colic symptoms. This decision came after he left the child alone with a large blanket before, having forgotten about him while engaged in a video game.

Police noted that several weighted blankets, totaling nearly 20 pounds, were found on the child’s bed. The coroner has determined suffocation was the cause of death due to the pressure created by the blanket.

Morningstar has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and is currently held at the Blue Earth County Jail. He is expected to appear in court on April 16th.
