Criticism of Minnesota Governor After Child Care Fraud Allegations

On Saturday, politicians took to social media to voice their criticism of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. This followed a viral video raising concerns about a Minneapolis child care facility that allegedly received millions in state funding while exhibiting minimal activity.

In response to the allegations—including claims of Medicaid and voter fraud involving the Somali community—State Vice President J.D. Vance referred to the situation as “the epitome of immigration fraud in our system.”

“Some politicians benefit from this to gain power, while others profit from welfare fraud,” Vance alleged. “In the end, it’s a zero-sum game—they’re robbing Minnesotans of both resources and political influence.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) called on Governor Walz to take responsibility. “People need to face arrest and charges, and the Governor must be held accountable,” he wrote. “Congress should initiate hearings right away to uncover the truth.”

A 42-minute video by independent journalist Nick Shirley surfaced on platforms like X and YouTube. The footage featured visits to various child care facilities in the state, including one located on Nicollet Street in Minneapolis.

Shirley’s video showed no noticeable activity at the center, which had a misspelled sign reading “Quality Learning Center.” This facility, despite claiming to care for 99 children, reportedly received around $4 million in state funds.

Other public figures also reacted to Shirley’s findings on Saturday. Donald Trump Jr. encouraged viewers to watch the video, implying that mainstream media neglects to report on such critical issues funded by taxpayers.

Elon Musk echoed similar sentiments, accusing the “radical left” of manipulating government programs to secure votes and create a one-party political landscape. “The more you watch, the more you’re appalled at what your tax dollars are funding, and the realization that your vote holds less weight without change,” Musk commented, referencing the election of Ilhan Omar in Minnesota.

The video gained traction this week amid ongoing scandals related to Governor Walz’s administration, particularly allegations of over $1 billion in losses from supposed social welfare fraud, largely affecting the Somali community in the Twin Cities.

Some of the funds allegedly funneled into the hands of al-Shabab, a known terrorist group.

As of now, neither Lawler nor Walz has responded to requests for comment.
