Charges Against Minnesota Man for Kidnapping and Rape
A man from Minnesota, already with two previous sexual crime convictions, has been charged with kidnapping and assaulting a woman at a hotel while on probation. Abdimahat Bill Mohamed, 28, allegedly used Snapchat to invite the woman from his home in Mankato to a hotel near Bloomington last September.
According to reports, when the victim entered his car, she expressed her unwillingness to go home. She later told investigators that when she attempted to flee, Mohamed seized her phone and warned her to stay put.
Prosecutors claim that he held her captive for several days and is suspected of sexually assaulting her during that time.
On September 21, nearly a week after the incident, the victim managed to escape from Mohamed’s car on Aldrich Avenue South. A passerby noticed her distress and contacted the authorities.
This incident took place just a few months after Mohamed faced convictions in two separate sexual assault cases, one involving a 15-year-old girl. Previous legal actions had seen Mohamed arrested in May 2024 for allegedly using Snapchat to lure another woman to his Minneapolis residence and assault her.
Court records indicate that he threatened harm to a paramedic if she refused to facilitate the assault on the victim, who he claimed had been strangled and raped. Witnesses reported hearing a commotion, and one claimed to have seen Mohamed atop the victim, subsequently threatening anyone who intervened.
Remarkably, in October 2024, Mohamed faced another indictment for a separate rape charge.
In a past incident from December 2017, Mohamed allegedly picked up a 15-year-old girl via Snapchat, bringing her to Minneapolis where she was assaulted by him and two others. Despite these serious charges, he received a plea deal that did not require prison time for the prior convictions.
His sentencing in May included various terms, such as probation and time in a workhouse, but no actual prison time. In a 2024 case, though he was sentenced to 14 months in prison, that too was suspended.
Mohamed currently faces charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and felony sexual battery. He remains detained at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility with a bail set at $300,000. As of now, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has not provided any comments regarding the case.
