Authorities spent months building their case before finally announcing charges. However, one expert suggested that the evidence provided may not be as strong as initially thought. Prosecutors now claim Samantha Jo Peterson was behind the wheel when the crash occurred on September 25, 2023.

Her car crashed into the back of a horse-drawn carriage, killing two children and injuring two others. Samantha’s sister, Sarah Beth Peterson, took responsibility for the accident, and she allegedly claimed that she was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

Sarah was held responsible for her sister Samantha’s alleged actions because, at the time of the accident, Samantha was uninsured and driving on an expired driver’s license.

The crash killed 7-year-old Wilma Miller and 11-year-old Irma Miller, and two siblings, ages 9 and 13, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Samantha was charged with 21 felonies, including vehicular homicide, criminal operation of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, failure to produce proof of insurance, careless driving, and speeding.

If convicted, Sarah could face up to five years in prison, and her sister Samantha could be jailed for up to 10 years.
