Missile Attack in Haifa Injures Worshippers
On Friday morning, Iranian missiles hit Haifa, Israel, damaging a historic mosque and injuring several Imams. Reports indicate that shortly after sunrise, Iran launched about 20 to 30 missiles in three separate waves, leading to sirens sounding across northern Israel and beyond. While most of the missiles were intercepted by the Israeli air defense systems, those that landed in Haifa caused the only injuries on the ground.
The Arjirina Mosque, one of the key Muslim sites in the city, was among the damaged buildings. It’s likely that Muslim clergy were present for the regular Friday prayer service.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar denounced the missile strikes on civilian sites, especially religious buildings, calling them “war crimes.” This sentiment was echoed by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who shared his outrage in a public statement:
The Aljarina Mosque, situated in the Wadinisna neighborhood of Haifa, was struck and resulted in injuries to Muslim clergy and worshippers engaged in prayer.
This shocking attack happened in Haifa, a city that represents coexistence among Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and others.
They are targeting all Israelis, regardless of their faith.
We stand united in defense of all Israelis.
The Al Jirina Mosque, also known as Al Nasr Mosque or the great mosque of Haifa, has historical significance, dating back to the Ottoman era. It is recognized as the second oldest mosque in Haifa, following a smaller mosque.
It appears that neither Iran nor groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah make distinctions in their attacks, as they threaten people of various faiths, including Jews and Arabs, Christians, and Muslims alike.
