A climber who went missing in Glacier National Park early last week has been found dead after an apparent fall, the National Park Service announced.
Grant Marcuccio, 32, of Whitefish, Montana, went missing from a hiking group on Aug. 18 but was found Sunday.
“The cause of death is still under investigation, but based on the trauma and position of the body, it appears to have been a fall,” the National Park Service said in a statement.
Marcuccio added that it was spotted from the air “below the ridge between Heaven's Peak and McPartland Peak, about a third of a mile east of McPartland Peak.”

Authorities said “Marcuccio had separated from the group to summit McPartland Peak alone and was scheduled to meet up at a designated location,” but “rangers were alerted by the hiking group on Sunday evening that Marcuccio had not arrived at the meet-up point.”
“Glacier National Park officials offer their heartfelt condolences to the family and ask that the public respect their privacy,” the National Park Service said in a statement.

Rescue teams have been searching for Marcuccio since last Monday using two Bear Air Rescue planes, rangers and search teams.
“Grant was my good friend and climbing companion. A talented and experienced climber, a kind person with no ego and loved by all,” wrote one Facebook user in response to a post notifying the public of Marcuccio's disappearance.
According to Fox Weather, Glacier National Park is known for its “stunning glacial lakes, waterfalls, canyons and alpine meadows,” but it also “is subject to extreme, rapidly changing weather.”
