Disappearance of Texas Teen on Christmas Eve
The best friend of a Texas teenager who vanished from her home early on Christmas Eve has spoken to The Post about the girl’s last words. Camila “Kami” Mendoza Olmos, 19, was last spotted outside her residence in San Antonio just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, dressed in pajama shorts and a hoodie.
Her close friend, Camila Estrella, noted that they had spoken the day before, making plans to go shopping for a dress for an event related to Estrella’s boyfriend. “She said, ‘Goodbye, Kami, I love you,’” Estrella recalled, visibly shaken.
Describing her friend, Estrella shared, “She was just a loving person.” The two communicated daily, which makes the sudden disappearance all the more shocking. “This is very random and we didn’t expect this,” she added.
On the day she went missing, Olmos was seen on video searching through a car outside a nearby home before the footage abruptly ended. This incident has left the local community unsettled, with family members frantically searching for Olmos, a student at Northwest Vista Community College.
Her aunt, Nancy Olmos, expressed concerns, stating, “It’s not Cami. I knew something was up.” The aunt had taken in Olmos and her mother when they moved from California to Texas in 2012. “For us, this wasn’t Christmas. It’s a nightmare,” she lamented, mentioning how relatives returned early from their holiday travels to assist in the search.
On Wednesday morning, Olmos’ mother, Rosario, couldn’t locate her daughter, who typically took early morning walks. By around 9:30 a.m., she tried calling Olmos’s cellphone, only to discover it lying on the bed with a dead battery, as reported through an interpreter.
Following this, Rosario contacted the police, who arrived with scent-tracking dogs but were unable to locate Olmos. Authorities declared in a missing person alert that Camila Olmos may be “possibly endangered.”
