The Renton Police Department announced Monday night that a woman who went missing in Washington state was found dead in a cemetery in Mexico.
Reyna Hernandez, 54, who went missing from her home in South Renton on February 26th, was found dead on March 8th near Mexicali, the capital of Baja California state, across the U.S.-Mexico border. It was discovered that there was.
Friends reported that Hernandez went missing on Feb. 28 after he did not return home after running an errand and did not open a small business in Renton Highlands.
On March 8, detectives were alerted to a Mexicali news story about an unidentified body found in a local cemetery along the Tijuana Expressway.

Investigators contacted Mexican authorities and were able to provide enough information to identify Hernandez over the weekend.
Mexican law enforcement officials arrested the suspect on unrelated charges.
The 61-year-old Renton resident is currently in custody in Mexico, where they were able to recover Hernandez’s vehicle, police said.

Detectives believe this was a domestic violence crime, and evidence indicates Hernandez was taken against her will.
Authorities confirmed to FOX 13 that there were signs of torture, saying Hernandez had been tied up, shot in the head and wrapped in a blanket.

Hernandez’s friends reported her missing on February 28 after becoming concerned that she had not returned home, answered her phone calls or returned to work at her hair salon. (FOX13)
“This is a terrible outcome. Our hearts go out to Reyna’s family and friends,” said Chandler Swain, the investigation commander. “We are working closely with the Mexicali Police Department and our U.S. federal partners to determine when and where Reyna was killed.”

Once the time and manner of death are confirmed, detectives can determine where the murder took place. If the murder occurred in the United States, authorities would seek extradition so the suspect could be prosecuted in a U.S. jurisdiction, officials said.
