Mississippi man facing murder charges after six people are killed in shootings

Charges Filed in Fatal Mississippi Shooting

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting incident in northeast Mississippi that resulted in six fatalities, according to authorities.

Daricca M. Moore was named as the suspect late Friday, with the shootings taking place at three different locations in Cedar Bluff, a small rural town situated about 10 miles from West Point. Disturbingly, four of the deceased were related to Moore, with Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott revealing that the youngest victim was his cousin.

“I can’t fathom what could lead someone to take the life of a 7-year-old,” Scott expressed during a news conference on Saturday.

Moore was processed at the local jail early Saturday morning around 3:25 a.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Scott and Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Woodruff indicated that Moore faces first-degree murder charges, a claim that might lead to the death penalty. They also mentioned that more murder charges could follow.

The investigation is ongoing, and the motive behind the shooting remains uncertain.

According to Clay County records, Moore does not have any prior criminal background.

“It’s distressing to think a family member would turn against their own,” Scott noted, adding that they are hopeful to uncover the reasons for this tragic incident.

Early Saturday, Scott shared a message on social media, acknowledging the incident: “This violence took multiple innocent lives from our community. Thankfully, we have apprehended the suspect, and he is no longer a threat.” He urged the community to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts as law enforcement continues to investigate.
