Missouri AG Will Sue New York for ‘Lawfare Against President Trump’

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced Thursday that he will sue New York state for its “legal war” against former President Donald Trump.

“I will be suing the State of New York for directly attacking our democratic process through its unconstitutional legal challenge to President Trump. It’s time to restore the rule of law,” Bailey announced on X.

“We must fight back against unscrupulous prosecutors who are trying to remove a presidential candidate from the campaign trail, which is interfering with Missourians’ right to free and fair elections,” he added.

In May, a 12-person jury in Manhattan found the former president guilty of 34 counts of falsifying records to bribe porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. The former president is likely to appeal the conviction, but it is unclear whether the verdict will be overturned before the November election.

Ahead of the former president’s conviction, Andrew Bailey said in May that his office had requested the Department of Justice (DOJ) turn over “communications relating to the unlawful prosecution of President Trump.”

“I am seeking the Department of Justice to turn over communications related to the unlawful prosecution of President Trump, including communications between the Department of Justice and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis,” he said.

“Due to the evidence that has come to light, my office has reason to believe that Biden’s corrupt Justice Department is headquarters for the unlawful prosecution of President Trump,” he added.

Bailey said the investigation into Trump appears to have been conducted in coordination with the Department of Justice, noting that “Matthew Colangelo, the Department of Justice’s third-highest ranking official, was transferred to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to prosecute President Trump in December 2022.”

“Additionally, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg worked with New York Attorney General Letitia James to pursue a civil lawsuit against former President Trump and used that experience as a springboard for his campaign to his current position,” Bailey noted.

“During that campaign, Bragg said, ‘If I win, [he] “He said he would ‘go after Trump’ and vowed that if he wins the election he would ‘personally focus on a high-profile investigation into former President Donald Trump’s business practices,'” he added.

According to Fox News, Bailey request Release the communications through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

“Bailey requested all correspondence, including documents, schedules, minutes and agendas, related to Colangelo’s transfer to Bragg’s office, as well as similar correspondence between the Department of Justice, Bragg’s office, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis,” the report states.
