Missouri father Daryl Clemmons sentenced 13 years prison shooting youth football coach Shaquille Latimore

The Missouri father was sentenced to 13 years in prison Thursday for shooting a St. Louis Youth Football coach during his son's playing time while his 9- and 10-year-olds practiced nearby.

Ry judges discovered that Daryl Clemons, 45, had committed a crime last month in an assault and an armed criminal case.

He was hospitalized in a dangerous state, but survived.

Both men were armed.

Prosecutors said the coach gave his gun to a friend and told Clemons he should fight with his fist. Clemons rejected the idea and filmed Lattimore five times.

His father ran away, but later that night he relied on the police.

The team was then suspended for what St. Louis officials described as “a series of incidents perpetuated by adults” that culminated in shootings near the Sherman Park training ground.

Lattimore said at the time that he was angry at the decision and called the team “not fair” that he should suffer.

The defense argued that the shooting was in self-defense and filed a new trial motion.

The St. Louis Circuit Lawyers' Office said the two men were at conflict over the playing time Clemons' son had.

“Violence, especially in youth sports, is completely unacceptable and undermines the purpose of these programs — teamwork, discipline, respect,” reported Gabe Gore in a news release after the ju-search returned his conviction.

After filming, Metropolitan Urban League St. Louis partnered with the city to provide counseling to players and others who witnessed the shooting.
