Missouri Freshman Offensive Lineman Recovers from Heart Transplant

Johnnie “DJ” Jones, a freshman offensive lineman for the Missouri Tigers, is on the mend following a heart transplant, as announced by coach Eli Drinkwitz on Thursday.

In a recent post on social media, Drinkwitz shared that the surgery was successful and that Jones is recovering well. He expressed gratitude for the medical team involved in Jones’ care, emphasizing the importance of the donor and their family for their generous gift.

It’s important to note that Jones showed no signs of health issues before a routine heart screening uncovered a hidden defect. Earlier this week, Drinkwitz revealed that the team discovered a problem during freshman intake testing over the summer.

After two weeks of waiting for answers, the medical team sought a second opinion from the Mayo Clinic, where they ultimately found a much more serious heart condition. Just last week, they were informed that Jones would require a transplant.

Jones is an 18-year-old who graduated from Venice High School in Florida and joined Missouri as a four-star recruit. As it stands, Missouri holds a 4-1 record as they head into Week 6 of the college football season.
