Missouri man confesses to abducting pregnant girlfriend at gunpoint to pressure her into having an abortion

Kidnapping Case in Missouri

Kevin L. Smith, 42, was charged with kidnapping his pregnant girlfriend from her workplace in St. Charles, Missouri. He forced her at gunpoint to a family planning facility in Fairview Heights, according to prosecutors.

Smith pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping and received a sentence of over 15 years in prison. Following his release, he’ll be under supervised release for three years.

In a shocking incident from December 2022, Smith threatened to shoot his girlfriend in the head to coerce her. Fortunately, she managed to send a text to her family reporting the kidnapping. One of her relatives tracked her phone, and, as police arrived at the Planned Parenthood parking lot, Smith attempted to flee. The victim informed the officers where he had discarded a loaded gun from his vehicle.

After his arrest, Smith continued to harass her, threatening to break her out of jail, which resulted in additional charges against him.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, issued a statement blaming the incident on the policies of the Democratic Party.

“The abortion industry, guided by Planned Parenthood, is a dangerous ally for abusers,” Dannenfelser stated. “We’ve seen individuals such as pimps and traffickers use Planned Parenthood, knowing they will be supported without question. This brutal industry stays staunchly opposed to parental consent protections for minors.”

She further argued that Democratic efforts to loosen regulations on abortion drugs exacerbate the situation, claiming these substances flood the market anonymously and create additional risks for vulnerable individuals.

Dannenfelser concluded that Democrats’ disregard for the rule of law undermines states’ abilities to defend mothers and children, emphasizing the need for immediate action to restrict abortion pill access.

In response, Fairview Heights Police Chief Steve Johnson remarked on the severity of Smith’s actions, stating they demonstrated manipulation and danger. He praised the investigative efforts that led to holding Smith accountable in federal court, affirming that such violence will not be tolerated.
