Missouri politician prefers Chiefs play at a high school field

A Missouri congressman thinks the Chiefs should consider moving to Kansas now. House Speaker Pro Tem Chad Perkins expressed strong feelings about the NFL’s announcement to build a new stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, indicating he would support the team’s departure from Arrowhead Stadium.

This potential move hasn’t pleased all fans, and Perkins seems quite frustrated. He has suggested ending the state’s agreement with the Chiefs and removing Chiefs-branded license plates in Missouri. It’s as if he wants to say, “If they’re leaving, good riddance.” He even stated, “If I were the Jackson County Sports Authority, I’d say get out now. Just pack up and leave right away.”

Even though the Chiefs haven’t finalized their departure, plans to relocate were initially expected to materialize by 2031. However, a deal was struck in December for a state-of-the-art stadium in Kansas. Perkins didn’t hold back his emotions, saying, “If I give you everything you want and you still leave, maybe I need to rethink my approach.”

Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce recently discussed the situation on his podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with brother Jason. His thoughts reflected a mix of optimism and sadness. He acknowledged the excitement surrounding the move but felt somewhat heartbroken about losing the connection to Kansas City and Missouri. “I think it’s going to be incredible once it finally gets off the ground,” he noted, but then added, “It’s heartbreaking in a way to know that the Chiefs are leaving the Missouri side of Arrowhead.”
