Missy Mazzoli’s ‘The Listeners’ finally gets premiere date at Opera Philadelphia

Missy Mazzoli’s “The Listeners” will receive a delayed U.S. premiere on Sept. 25 as Opera Philadelphia’s season opener, which canceled the world premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s “Woman with Eyes Closed” due to budget constraints. .

Scripted by Lois Vavreck and based on a story by Jordan Tannahill, The Listeners is a story about charismatic leaders, cult-like rituals, and ambient noises that only a few can hear.
