Homicide Investigation in MIT Professor’s Death

Homicide detectives are currently looking into the death of a professor and laboratory director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who was found shot in his Brookline residence.

Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital after police received a call about a shooting at his home. Authorities confirmed that he was pronounced dead the following morning.

Loureiro was a faculty member in both the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering and the Department of Physics, also serving as the director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center.

MIT spokeswoman Kimberly Allen expressed the institution’s condolences to Loureiro’s family, colleagues, and students. She mentioned that the community is actively engaging in discussions to support those affected by this tragic news.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Loureiro’s death is being handled by the Massachusetts State Police, and officials have stated that they will not release further details to preserve the investigation’s integrity.
