Mitch McConnell, 82, Vows to Remain in Senate to Fight His Own Party

Sen. Mitch McConnell, 82, R-Ky., said Monday that he intends to remain in the U.S. Senate to counter conservatives who support a truce between Russia and Ukraine.

McConnell announced in February that he would step down as Senate minority leader at the end of his term, citing health issues and an incident where he froze during a news conference. He is the longest-serving leader in Senate history.

In an interview with WHAS, Terry Miner asked McConnell what his “mindset is when your feet hit the floor in the morning.”

“I have no intention of leaving the Senate,” McConnell said. “I’m especially working on a real counterattack against the isolationist movement within my own party. … And the symbol of that these days is, ‘Are we going to help Ukraine or not?’ ”

“Those are the things I have in mind as my focus for the next few years,” he said.

Mr. McConnell criticized conservatives like Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) who oppose financing the Ukraine war.

“What makes the matter even more vexing is that others seem to be heading in that direction, making arguments that are easily rebuttable. We will not lose any troops. It’s the Ukrainians who are fighting,” McConnell said. Said. “If Russia occupies Ukraine, then NATO countries will occupy it, and then we will be in the middle of it.”

Under McConnell’s leadership, the national debt Rose Over $30 trillion, illegal immigration continues, and real wages for American workers remain stagnant. Obamacare was enacted in 2010. Big banks were bailed out in his 2008, and social media companies silenced individuals with no repercussions.
