Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Saturday shifted blame for the national decline he managed during his long tenure in the Senate.
Many economic nationalists believe in McConnell, He is the longest serving Senate leader in American history. The elites have managed the decline of the state while profiting from it.
McConnell clearly disagrees. He suggested at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum that MAGA is to blame for its controlled decline, even though the movement is only eight years old. McConnell has been in power since 1985.
“Within the party once so competently led by President Ronald Reagan, it has become increasingly fashionable to suggest that the kind of global leadership he modeled is no longer the place for America.” he said.
“Let me be clear: America will not be made great again by people who are content to deal with America's decline,” he said in a veiled criticism of MAGA.
“Even as NATO and its Indo-Pacific allies renew their commitment to hard power, interoperability, and collective defense, they are now questioning America's own role at the center of these force-expanding organizations and partnerships. Some people are holding it.”
America First is associated with the idea of curbing America's costly empire-building efforts, such as previous efforts in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. American taxpayers pay the financial price, and America's military often pays the ultimate price, while the defense industry is protected by politicians and rakes in huge profits.
