McConnell Engaged in Conversations While Recovering
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is reportedly alert and actively discussing various matters over the phone.
CNN’s Scott Jennings mentioned he had a chat with McConnell on Tuesday morning, where they reportedly talked for nearly 20 minutes about several topics.
“I spoke with my old friend Mitch McConnell, the senior senator from Kentucky. He’s still in the hospital recovering. Our conversation lasted just under 20 minutes, during which we discussed the situations unfolding in Iran, Ukraine, Maine, our visit to the TR Presidential Library, and touched on some Senate history,” Jennings shared.
He further expressed, “I told him I hoped to see him back at work as soon as he’s ready.”
A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) also shared that Thune had a long and substantive call with McConnell on Monday, covering various subjects, including national security.
These updates contrast sharply with claims made by conservative activist Laura Loomer and journalist Desiree Townsend, who stated on Monday that McConnell had been declared “brain dead,” without citing concrete sources. McConnell’s team firmly denied these allegations. In fact, a spokesperson confirmed that the 84-year-old senator is recovering in the hospital and continues to collaborate with his staff.
“Senator McConnell is grateful for the support he’s receiving during his recovery,” a spokesperson told Breitbart News. “He’s improving and working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is not in session.”
McConnell was hospitalized on June 14, although details about his specific health condition remain unclear. He has experienced concussions and falls in recent years, and notably, has had two unexplained freezes while at the podium.
An interesting note is that McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, who previously served as U.S. Transportation Secretary and has connections to China, traveled to Beijing to meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng just three days after her husband was admitted to the hospital, which raised some eyebrows.
