SAN ANTONIO — Mitchell Robinson Returns Amid Uncertainty

After a week filled with questions, Mitchell Robinson took to the court.

Yet, the specifics of his injury remain somewhat ambiguous.

Robinson played 13 minutes during the Knicks’ 105-95 victory over the Spurs on Wednesday night at Frostbank Center.

He managed to score two points and grab six rebounds. Those two points came from a well-executed alley-oop against Luke Cornett.

When Coach Mike Brown was asked about any restrictions on Robinson, he responded, “I didn’t think he did.” He noted that he needed to review the game footage but felt Robinson was still capable of making impressive plays. “He caught lobs. He was still a vertical threat… Defensively, I thought he did well, working to gather rebounds and keep the boards clear.”

Robinson’s condition became a focal point for the Knicks after he had surgery for a fractured fifth metacarpal in his right hand between the conference finals and the Finals. His participation was considered uncertain leading up to the game.

When asked if he ever doubted he would be able to play, Robinson confidently stated, “No, there was no doubt in my mind. I’ve been here eight years. There was no way I was going to miss this.”

So, how did his hands feel? Robinson said, “It was straightforward. It’s okay. Let’s see how it goes tonight.”

The Knicks have kept details about the injury under wraps, clarifying only that it didn’t happen during a game or practice. ESPN indicated the incident occurred at his home.

Wednesday marked Robinson’s first media appearance since the conference finals, but he remained tight-lipped about the nature of his injury. “We came here for basketball,” he remarked.

In an unrelated incident during Game 1, a fan rushed onto the court in an attempt to take a selfie with Victor Wembanyama, briefly halting the game until security intervened.

Wembanyama admitted, “I have never been in such a situation. I didn’t know how to act. I was really surprised.”
