It seems a “fan” might have mixed up which team Mitchell Robinson represents.
After his first game with the Celtics—where he faced his former team, the Knicks—Robinson shared an Instagram Story. In it, he called out a fan who mistakenly thought he was still part of the blue and orange squad.
“Hey, tell me why a fan, bro, said that we lost tonight?” he remarked, wearing a pink hoodie. This was after Boston’s 107-103 victory. “I think he still thinks I play for the Knicks, and I’m like, ‘You dumb motherf–ker. He’s a fake fan, bro.”
Robinson chuckled about the situation, saying he was “out here in Boston having the time of my life” before further criticizing the fan, branding him “stupid as a b—h.”
After this win, he had some reason to celebrate—his former team dropped to 0-2.
In the game, he scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, and delivered two assists while holding a minus-two rating in his 22 minutes of play. This helped Boston recover to a 1-1 record after a disappointing start against the Pistons.
This season is significant for Robinson as it marks his first time playing for a team other than the Knicks. He signed a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the Celtics to be their starting center.
He had been the longest-serving player for the Knicks and concluded his tenure positively by winning the franchise’s first title in over five decades last June. He bears no resentment toward his former team, despite the lack of a formal contract offer.
“Yeah. I was like, cool,” he mentioned on Friday night, noting there were no hard feelings—just a clean slate ahead.
He acknowledged that his move to Boston might not sit well with Knicks fans, but quite frankly, he didn’t care.
Recently, he’s seen a different and more active offensive role in Boston’s scheme—though it’s still early days.
“That was the only thing that was kind of different, transferring to the rivals. But you know me, man. I like to troll,” he explained. “Nobody was happy with that move. But I was.”
In a moment of connection with his new followers, Robinson received a standing ovation after blocking Karl-Anthony Towns in the fourth quarter and then scoring on an alley-oop, increasing the Celtics’ lead to 12 points.
He remarked about how special it was to play against his former team for the first time, emphasizing that his experience with the Knicks had its advantages. “Still NBA, so playing against them guys, I know all their plays and stuff like that,” Robinson said. “Just a little battle.”
