Free agent MLB pitcher Julio Urias has reportedly avoided felony charges stemming from an alleged domestic dispute in September.

The case will be transferred to the City Attorney's Office for review of misdemeanor charges, ESPN reported. The case was originally filed through the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Urias was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault in 2019, and although he was not charged, he was suspended for 20 games.

Urias was placed on leave a few days after the incident. That is, his salary was paid, but he was not allowed to join the team.

MLB continues to investigate the incident. No MLB player has ever been suspended twice for violating MLB's domestic violence policy.

Urias spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished third in the 2022 National League Cy Young Award voting with a National League-best ERA of 2.16. He led the majors with 20 wins the year before, but was seventh at the time.

The Mexican-born left-hander started 21 games for the Dodgers in 2023, posting a 4.60 ERA. For his career, Urias has a 3.11 ERA in 158 games (122 starts) and a 60-25 regular season record.

Urias won the World Series with the Dodgers in 2020.

In place of Urias, the Dodgers appear to have acquired Shohei Ohtani (who won't pitch in 2024, but is scheduled to return to the mound in 2025), Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow.
