Major League Baseball's postseason begins on Tuesday, October 1st with the Wild Card Series. The American League's spots have been decided, but the National League will need one more day to make a final decision, with three teams competing for the remaining two spots.
The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves played a doubleheader at Trust Park on Monday to earn a ticket to the postseason. Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning of Game 1, and the Mets won 8-7. Atlanta defeated New York 3-0 in the second game, clinching a postseason berth. The Mets will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series, while the Braves will take on the San Diego Padres.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will receive the No. 1 overall seed and will face the winner of either the Braves or Padres in the Division Series. The Philadelphia Phillies will end the Braves' six-season NL East championship run and face the winner of the Mets/Padres series.
The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians earned first-round byes as the top two seeds in the American League. In the Wild Card Series, the Houston Astros will face the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles will face the Kansas City Royals.
