MLB star sustains odd injury during spring training game

A knee injury will keep St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Jordan Walker away from baseball diamonds for the next few days.

The 22-year-old appeared to be maintaining his injury after stomping on the sprinkler's head as he chased a flyball during a spring training game on Tuesday.

The Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals at Tuesday's exhibition in Palm Beach, Florida.

MRI later confirmed that Walker avoided structural damage to his knee. However, there were some signs of irritation.

Cardinals manager Oliver Malmoll said the team will take a cautious approach to Walker's knees over the course of next week.

“that's reality,” Marmol told reporters Wednesday. “We calm it down for a week and then we back up that baby. [spring training] game. ”

Walker is expected to be ready for the first day of next month. Walker has made some changes to his swing this offseason and is expected to start on the right field once the regular season begins.

Walker has 21 career home runs and 71 RBIs in 168 games. Right-handed batters also have a career batting average of .255.

The Cardinals finished last season with an 83-79 record but did not make it to the playoffs.

Marmol oversaw 12 games improvements from the 2023 season. St. Louis has not qualified for the MLB postseason since the franchise won the 2022 NL Central Division title.
