Game Highlights from Fenway Park
The umpire, Bill Miller, is not without his flaws, but he definitely holds himself to a high standard. During a recent match on Friday night, he officiated a game between the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park.
As the game neared its end, the Red Sox were leading 6-1 in the eighth inning. Rafael Devers hit the ball into right field, and Jaren Duran was on his way to score.
It was a tight situation. Initially, Miller called Duran safe; however, upon review, it was revealed that Duran was tagged just before reaching home plate. This reversal led to a chorus of boos from the crowd. Then, unexpectedly, an expletive was heard over the PA system, seemingly from Miller himself: “f—! f— I saw that too,” he reportedly exclaimed.
Fortunately for Miller, this controversial call did not affect the final outcome of the game, as the Red Sox secured their victory, finishing 6-1 in the next inning.
Earlier in the game, Boston had taken a quick 1-0 lead with a home run from Alex Bregman, but the Twins managed to tie it up in the third inning. After some back-and-forth without scoring, the Red Sox exploded with five runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Later, Miller likely wished he could forget that particular play, especially since Duran contributed significantly with another RBI single that brought his total for the night to seven runs.
In the ninth inning, pitcher Liam Hendrix came in to close the game for Boston, which improved their record to 18-16, while the Minnesota Twins dropped to 13-20.
