Mother Sentenced for Hosting Teen Sex Parties
In a recent ruling that captured attention, a mother from Los Gatos was sentenced to nearly 36 years in prison for her role in organizing alcohol-fueled sex parties that involved teenagers.
Shannon O’Connor, aged 51, found out her sentence on Thursday from Judge Elizabeth Peterson at the Santa Clara County Superior Court. The sentence was at the upper limit for her crimes.
Back in March, a jury had convicted O’Connor on 48 felony charges as well as several misdemeanors related to child endangerment and providing alcohol to minors.
During the sentencing phase, O’Connor spoke directly to those affected. “My actions caused your pain and I’m ashamed,” she stated, acknowledging the gravity of her actions. “I live every day knowing that I am the cause.”
She quickly added, “I’m not sorry for myself. I’m sorry for all of you and what I put you through. But I look at you today and I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that I have been punished and will continue to be punished for many years to come.”
O’Connor reportedly hosted these illegal parties at her home and a vacation rental during the 2020-2021 school year, involving groups that included her own son. Witnesses indicated that numerous sexual assaults occurred while she was present, and she allegedly supplied the teenagers with substantial amounts of alcohol while observing inappropriate acts.
One victim bravely recounted her experience in court, describing the gatherings as places where teenage girls were treated as “sexual objects” and lamented that there was “no escape” from the atmosphere O’Connor created.
The sentencing process unfolded over three days, during which multiple victims shared their heart-wrenching stories about the long-lasting impact of O’Connor’s actions.
In total, she is set to spend 35 years and 10 months behind bars, which might effectively be close to 31 years due to time served on the misdemeanor counts.
