Mother Accused of Child Abuse Spotted After Posting Bail
Lysette Soto Domenech, 64, who allegedly kept her twin sons confined in a Bronx apartment for years, was seen publicly for the first time after securing her release on bail.
When approached by reporters outside her Harlem apartment on Tuesday night, Domenech chose not to respond to questions regarding the serious allegations against her, instead muttering in frustration.
According to reports, she is accused of holding her now-14-year-old sons captive in their Riverdale home for nine years, possibly to maintain the illusion of them being “babies forever.” Prosecutors have stated that after being bottle-fed baby food and placed in diapers, each boy weighed just over 50 pounds.
Having posted $25,000 bail after facing multiple charges, including child abuse, Domenech’s financial situation appears dire. Bankruptcy filings from last year indicated she had no money in her bank account but owes around $300,000.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for February 4.
Authorities reported that the boys were hospitalized for three months before being moved into foster care.
Inside the Harlem apartment, a woman claimed Domenech doesn’t reside there. “Oh my god, she doesn’t even live here,” she reportedly said from behind a closed door. “I’m going to call the police now.”
