A Texas mother told her 3-year-old son to “say goodbye to daddy” on camera, moments before shooting him in a ditch and then turning the gun on himself. The day before, she was scheduled for a custody hearing in court. According to police, her ex-husband said:
Savannah Kliger, 32, and her son, Cayden, were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head in a San Antonio park on March 19, but authorities are investigating the case as a murder-suicide. , has spent weeks sorting through their tragic final moments.
In the hours before the killings, authorities said Kliger fired shots at old wedding photos, vandalized her ex-husband’s home and sent numerous FaceTime videos and text messages saying, “I never got anything until the end.” He concluded that he had warned him, “I don’t think so.” at the time. ”
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the harrowing ordeal began to unfold after Kliger left work on the afternoon of March 18 and went straight to her ex-husband’s house while she was at work.
After damaging her ex-husband’s furniture and some of his personal belongings, the mother drove to his home, where police later found her wedding dress and portrait on the bed.
“We believe she fired two shots into the wedding portrait,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said.
Authorities said Kriger then picked up her son from day care and then began bombarding Kaiden’s father with distressing messages.
“There’s nothing to go back to. There really isn’t,” Kriger said in one FaceTime call. “At the end of the day, you don’t get anything.”
His last email to his ex-girlfriend read, “Say goodbye to my son.”
A 21-second video recovered from her cell phone showed Kriger and her son sitting in a ditch in the park where her body would later be found.
Authorities said the video shows the mother telling her son to “say goodbye to daddy,” before apologizing to him for not having his father and kissing him.
Authorities said her phone records show she searched for children’s cartoon videos on her phone while the children were still sitting in the ditch.
Although the video did not show the fatal shooting, Kriger’s intentions were “pretty clear,” the sheriff said.
Their bodies were discovered about 19 hours after an Amber Alert was issued and authorities searched the scene.
The Bexar County Coroner’s Office quickly determined the cause of their deaths to be murder-suicide.
Authorities also revealed at the time that the boy was at the center of a custody battle.
Kriger filed for divorce and a temporary restraining order on March 7. MySA reported.
