Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) is withdrawing his bid for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, weeks after abandoning his short-lived bid for the U.S. Senate.
Rosendale said in a release posted to In response to this incident, he announced that he would no longer run for Congress.

“This has caused serious damage to me and my family. Furthermore, it has caused serious confusion in the selection of the next representative of MT-02,” he added. Rosendale did not elaborate on what “rumors” he was referring to in his release, but he continued:
For me, public service has always been about service, not a title or a position of power. The current attacks have made it difficult for me to concentrate on my work of serving you.
Therefore, in the best interest of my family and community, I am withdrawing from the House race and will not seek public office.

Rosendale briefly launched a candidacy for Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-Mont.) seat in February, but former President Donald Trump rejected Republican primary candidate Tim Sheehy the same day. I supported it. Less than a week later, Rosendale withdrew his Senate bid. President Trump informed Rosendale months ago that he would lose valuable support if the senator ran for Senate.
Rosendale Ran As Breitbart News noted, the last time a Democrat won a statewide election in Montana was in Tester in 2018. In the same year’s Senate election, Mr. Tester received 50.3% of the vote, to Mr. Rosendale’s 46.8%.
