In a terrifying moment, an 8-year-old Dodgers fan was hit in the face by a foul ball during Friday’s game against the Reds at Dodger Stadium.
The incident occurred in the fourth inning when Mookie Betts screamed into the stands and it hit Nathan Sanchez in the right eye. family told KTLA.
The Sanchez family was sitting between first base and home plate about halfway through the section.
The ball hit a young Dodgers fan and flew into the crowd.
“As soon as the ball hit him, all I could hear was ‘eyes!'” Nathan’s mother, Daisy Sanchez, told the TV station.
A doctor was sitting nearby and quickly attended to Nathan and stadium security, and medical personnel arrived soon after.
The 8-year-old boy told the station that he was crying and stunned due to his injury, but was cleared to return to play after being checked out.
The family wanted him to catch foul balls when they went to games, so Nathan brought a glove.
The Sanchez family was surprised that another spectator stole the foul ball that hit the boy and returned it to his family, but they were disappointed that they did not hear from the Dodgers after the incident.
Nathan received some stickers and buttons, but would have liked to have the ball signed.
“We just want him to sign our ball, the ball that hit him. At least an autograph,” the family said.
The Dodgers have not commented on the matter, and MLB has taken steps to limit the risk of foul balls to fans, including expanding a protective net behind home plate.
Ann NBC News report revealed From 2012 to 2019, there were at least 808 reports of baseball fan injuries.
