Details on Friday about Florida State shooting Phoenix Echner as law enforcement is trying to piece together the motives that allegedly led to fire at school, killing two and injuring six people.
Ichner was injured by an officer responding Thursday afternoon, Thursday afternoon, according to Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Rebel. Police also said his mother was a sheriff’s deputy at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and believes Ichner used his mother’s former service handgun to shoot the victim.
A few months before the shooting, Ichner was quoted in an FSU Student Newspaper article about the anti-Trump protest at school and was identified as a political science major. According to the WFLA.
“These people are usually pretty funny, but not for a good reason, I think it’s a bit too late. [Trump] It is already set to be launched on January 20th, and there is not much you can do unless you are completely inevitable. I don’t think anyone wants that.”

article Updated later “An previous version of this article includes quotes from gunmen in the April 17 shooting at FSU, which was removed in the editor’s decision to maintain ethical journalistic standards and avoid amplifying the voices of those responsible for violence.”
Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeill also said Ichner “stood the families of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and is engaged in many of the training programs we have,” according to the Associated Press. “So it’s no surprise to us that he has access to weapons.”
Ichner was a longtime member of the Sheriff’s Office Youth Advisory Committee, he continued.
Its website, Leon County Sheriff’s Office The Youth Advisory Committee said “We provide youth in Leon County with an active role in addressing youth issues.”
“It is YAC’s business to advise the sheriff, reach out to Leon County teens, inform existing opportunities, and hear suggestions on what the sheriff’s office can do to improve youth-oriented efforts,” the group says, which is tasked with identifying and discussing the issues youth faces in our county.

Five people injured in mass shootings were shot and the sixth was injured while trying to escape, Revell said in a statement Thursday night. They were all in fair condition, a spokesman for Memorial Healthcare in Tallahassee.
As of Thursday night, Ichner was in the hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”
Aidan Stickney, a 21-year-old studying manager, told the Associated Press that he was running late for classes on Thursday.
The gun was choked, Stickney said, and the shooter rushed back to his car and showed up with a handgun, setting the woman on fire. Stickney ran and warned others that it was called 911.
“I’m lucky today. I really did it. I really, really did it,” he said.

The suspect’s mother, Jessica Eekner, has been an officer for over 18 years, and authorities say she has done “a tremendous job” in her position.
“Her service to this community has been exceptional,” McNeill said at a press conference. “Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, which was one of the weapons found on the scene. And we are continuing to investigate how the weapon was used.”
Authorities believe the suspect acted alone said the two killed were not FSU students.
FSU said all classes have been cancelled until Friday and the athletic event in Tallahassee has been cancelled until the weekend.
