Preseason Game Halted After Lions Player Injury
The preseason matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons took a somber turn when Lions safety Morris Norris suffered a serious head injury during the game on Friday night.
Norris received medical attention for about 20 minutes before being transported off the field by ambulance. The game was called off at 6:31, shortly after the incident occurred.
Norris got hurt while attempting to tackle Falcons player Nathan Carter in the fourth quarter, with no immediate news on the extent of his injury.
As the game resumed, Falcons quarterback Emory Jones took a snap with both teams standing still at the line of scrimmage, and the clock continued to tick down. Ultimately, officials declared the game suspended, citing a decision “by New York.”
At the time of suspension, the Lions had a lead of 17-10.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an update during the post-game press conference, saying, “He’s breathing, he’s talking. That’s positive. He has some movement, but they’ll need to run more tests.” His words, though reassuring, underscored the seriousness of the situation.
Lions quarterback Kyle Allen expressed his concern for Norris, stating, “You can’t help but pray for him. It’s just a tragic aspect of the game.” He further noted, “I don’t think anyone on that sideline wanted to play. It wasn’t really worth it—looking into everyone’s eyes showed that.” There’s something about these moments that really puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?
Norris, who is 24 years old, joined the Lions as an undrafted free agent from Fresno State in 2024. Last season, he was primarily on the practice squad but eventually made it to the active roster, playing in two games.
