Overturn the 2020 election results.

Co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski harshly criticized the network for hiring McDaniel on Monday’s broadcast and called on NBC News to reconsider its decision.

“To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to balance election coverage. But it should be conservative Republicans and those in power.” “This is not someone who used his position to deny an anti-democratic election,” Brzezinski said.

“And we hope that NBC reconsiders their decision. Needless to say, she will not be making a guest appearance on ‘Morning Joe’ in her capacity as a paid contributor,” Brzezinski added. .

NBC is dealing with a wave of internal backlash over its decision to use McDaniel as a contributor.

NBC News employees (including on-air talent) expressed dissatisfaction with this decision, noting that McDaniel paid lip service to President Trump’s complaints over his 2020 election loss, as well as identifying also highlighted her attacks on NBC News reporters.

Chuck Todd, the former longtime host of the Sunday morning show “Meet the Press,” slammed his network for the decision.

“There’s a reason why many NBC News journalists are uncomfortable with this, because much of their professional dealings with the RNC over the past six years have been met with gaslighting and character assassination.” he said.

Scarborough, who served as a House Republican for more than 20 years, told his co-hosts that he was “inundated with calls this weekend” about NBC News’ decision.

Mr. Scarborough said that he and Mr. Brzezinski were not consulted before making the decision, but that if they had been, he would have strongly advised the network not to hire McDaniel.

“I learned about this hire in the press on Friday,” Scarborough said.

“We were not asked for our opinion on this hire, but if we had been, we would have strongly opposed it for several reasons, including, as our lawyers say, Mr. McDaniels’ role in Donald Trump’s election fraud.” “She pressured election officials not to certify the election results while Donald Trump was on the phone,” he continued.

McDaniel gave his first interview as a paid contributor on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker on Sunday. Trump said he does not support President Trump’s promise to free or pardon so-called “patriots” who are imprisoned on charges related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Asked about Trump’s pledge, McDaniel said: “If you attacked the Capitol and were convicted, that should stand.”

When pressed by Welker, McDaniel said he only voiced his opposition now because he didn’t want to disagree with the former president while leading the RNC.

“When you’re the RNC chair, it’s like you’re chairing the entire team,” she said. “Now I can be myself a little more. This is what I believe.”

In a panel discussion after the interview, Todd slammed the network’s decision to hire McDaniel, telling Welker: Because he doesn’t know what to believe. ”

“She’s currently a paid contributor for NBC News, so I don’t know if she answered you because she didn’t want to jeopardize the deal,” Todd said, adding that McDaniel has “a credibility issue.” He added that there is trust. Problems with some journalists.

In announcing her hire on Friday, the network emphasized that her political background brings editorial and ideological balance to its reporting.

“There couldn’t be a more important moment to have a voice like Rona’s on our team,” said Carrie Budoff Brown, head of political reporting at NBC. I wrote it in my notes Shared with The New York Times.
