Survey Reveals American Disapproval of Military Parade Funding

A recent survey by NBC’s decision-making desk in collaboration with Survey Monkey indicates that 64% of Americans oppose using state funds for the military parade scheduled this weekend.

On Saturday at 6:30 PM, 150 vehicles, 50 aircraft, and 6,600 soldiers will march through Washington, D.C., celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Interestingly, this event also falls on President Trump’s 79th birthday. An airshow might occur based on the weather conditions.

The Army estimates that the costs for the event will range from $25 million to $45 million, all funded by taxpayer money. This budget also considers any potential damages to public spaces due to tanks driving on city streets.

Disapproval is particularly strong among political groups, with 88% of Democrats and 72% of independents opposing the funding. In contrast, support among Republicans stands at 68%.

Within the Republican camp, MAGA supporters show a high approval rate of 75%, whereas more moderate Republicans report a 56% approval.

A poll query indicated: “As you may know, President Trump ordered a military parade in Washington, D.C. on June 14th to mark the 250th birthday of the U.S. military, estimated that the parade could cost $45 million.” Respondents could choose their level of opposition.

Only 14% of adults strongly support the use of federal funds for the parade, while 44% are strongly opposed. Additionally, 22% expressed some support, compared to 20% who indicated slight opposition.

The survey, conducted between May 30th and June 10th, included 19,410 adults nationwide, with a margin of error of ±2.1%.

Another survey by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 60% of Americans believe the parade is “not an effective use of government funds.”

Democratic leaders have reacted strongly against the parade. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) suggested, “If it’s really celebrating military families, we could use that $30 million to help them with childcare, food aid, and tuition,” on June 5th.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) remarked, “We all enjoy a nice birthday party, but most of us don’t celebrate with a $45 million taxpayer-funded military parade.”

These displays of military power contrast sharply with Trump’s deployment in Los Angeles, where 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines were called in to respond to protests against immigration raids.
