Most in new survey wouldn’t back candidate convicted of crime, or over 80 years old

A new Gallup poll finds that most Americans say they would not support a candidate who has been convicted of a felony or is over 80 years old.

The survey asked voters how they felt about voting for a person based on a variety of characteristics and qualifications, even if the party of their choice nominated that person for president.

Sixty-six percent of respondents said they would not support a candidate who had been charged with a felony, and 70% said they would not support a candidate who had been convicted of a felony. This was revealed through an investigation.

Similarly, 66% of respondents said they would not vote for a candidate who is over 80 years old.

Gallup chose age in particular because President Biden, the likely Democratic nominee, is currently 81 years old and will be 86 by the end of his second term.

Surveys show voters are less opposed to candidates over 70. 35% said they would not support a candidate over the age of 70, while 63% said they would.

Former President Donald Trump is currently 77 years old.

Gallup also asked questions about felonies in the survey. Because it was about Trump. “Mr. Trump currently faces 91 felonies in four separate criminal cases, some of which could be sentenced before Election Day.”

The survey results show that as things stand, Biden and Trump are likely to be the candidates of their respective parties, and voters will have to choose between the “two most unpleasant traits” measured in the poll. It was shown that

The study found that even if voters of each party have concerns about specific characteristics of a candidate, in today's highly polarized environment, “partisanship may be sufficient to override those concerns.” It was shown that

The Gallup poll found that Democrats were less likely to say they would oppose voting for a candidate over 80, perhaps due to Biden's re-election efforts. Similarly, Republicans were less likely to say they oppose candidates with criminal convictions, likely because of President Trump's ongoing legal problems.

The survey is based on a poll conducted from January 2nd to 22nd.
