Majority of Americans Back Trump’s Deportation Efforts

A recent Harvard Harris survey indicates that most Americans, irrespective of their political affiliations, are in favor of the Trump administration’s initiatives to deport illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities.

The findings reveal significant support for Trump’s immigration strategies, especially regarding border management and the focus on deporting illegal individuals with criminal records. When participants were asked whether they support or oppose the administration’s push to deport such criminals, an impressive 75% affirmed their support, a slight increase from 74% in June. Only 25% expressed opposition. Support spans across party lines, with 93% of Republicans, 70% of independents, and 59% of Democrats backing the deportation of illegal criminals.

Moreover, 60% of respondents approve of the administration’s efforts to strengthen border security. While a majority of Republicans (89%) and independents (55%) are in favor, many Democrats, about 66%, disagree with the actions taken at the southern border.

Interestingly, it’s noted that zero illegal immigrants were released within the U.S. in May, according to recent reports from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

CBP has provided statistics for June, which include:

  • 25,228 national total encounters, marking a minimum monthly total in CBP history
  • 8,024 U.S. Border Patrol national concerns, a new historic low
  • 6,072 southwest border apprehensions, 15% lower than the previous March record
  • 136 on June 28, the lowest daily total in agency history
  • Zero parole releases in June, compared to 27,766 in June 2024

These figures align with the reality that most undocumented immigrants detained are either convicted criminals or currently face pending charges.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) points out that a number of individuals labeled as “non-criminals” may, in fact, be terrorists, human rights abusers, or gang members. This labeling, they argue, misleads the public about the true nature of these individuals.

The survey was conducted between July 6 and July 8, 2025, and carries a margin of error of +/- 2.2%.
