Most Believe Biden Administration Intentionally Kept Borders Open

A recent Harvard Harris survey shows that many people think the Biden administration has deliberately kept the U.S. southern border open. About 67% of respondents share this view, including 84% of Republicans and 68% of independents. Interestingly, a slight majority of Democrats—51%—believe the borders are “safe.”

When asked whether they think the open borders policy was intentional, 69% responded that it was, while only 31% disagreed. It’s worth noting that 52% of Democrats seem to lean toward viewing the situation as unintentional, whereas a significant majority of Republicans (88%) and 60% of independents believe it is a deliberate policy.

These findings come amid reports of the Trump administration’s significant success in border management. For instance, authorities noted that in May and June, no illegal immigrants were released into the U.S.

Trump recently made comments regarding this, referring to his administration’s zero-tolerance policy as compared to Biden’s approach. He stated, “Biden is grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a complete fraud!” He called for a special prosecutor, emphasizing that such issues should not recur.

In a June press release, Customs and Border Protection confirmed that there had been no releases of illegal immigrants along the Southwest Border for two consecutive months. This is a sharp contrast to June 2024, when 27,766 releases occurred while Biden was in office.

Moreover, border patrol reported just 6,070 encounters with illegal immigrants at the southern border in June, marking a record low. This contrasts significantly with the Biden administration’s peak, where around 10,000 migrants crossed illegally every day during a busy period.

The Harvard-Harris poll was conducted from July 6th to 8th, 2025, and has a margin of error of +/- 2.2%.
