Most say Trump too erratic in economic moves: Survey

According to a new survey, most Americans consider him “too unstable” when implementing his trade agenda, as President Trump slaps tariffs on his top trading partners and wants him to fight high prices. Published Wednesday night.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 57% of US voters, including about a third of Republicans, are unstable as the president's policies impose taxes on goods coming to the country. A third, 32%, opposed while 11% were unsure.

Approximately 44% of respondents said they have approved President Trump's presidency so far, and have approved the same amount as a previous repetition of the survey released earlier this month.

Approximately 33% of voters said they are approving Trump's efforts to address the cost of living.

Most people think that tariffs will raise prices for food, according to research. The majority of 70% of respondents, including around nine in 10 Democrats and six in 10 Republican voters, said that increasing taxes will raise prices for groceries and other products.

Research shows that three-thirds, or 31% of voters, think workers are better when the US charges tariffs. Almost half of respondents, 49%, opposed while 21% were unsure of the impact of tariffs.

Stock markets began with losses this week after the Trump administration refused to rule out the possibility of the US economy slowly falling into a recession. The Dow Jones industrial average was closed on Monday with a loss of 890 points, while the Nasdaq composites were closed with a loss of 4%.

The White House previously added that the country was in a “period of economic transition,” chopping some of the volatility of the previous administration, and that Trump's tariff agenda is intended to boost domestic manufacturing.

Inflation remains the most concern for Americans, polls found. According to six in ten, Trump said he should focus on addressing inflation rather than other issues like immigration, crime and federal downsizing.

Most of nearly 80% of Republicans believe Trump's economic policies will “be rewarded in the long term,” polls found. Overall, 41% of respondents had the same belief in the president's treatment of the economy.

About half of respondents, 51%, said Trump's policies are deteriorating the US economy. A CNN investigation released Thursday was found. About 28% say the economic situation has improved since the president took office on January 20th.

A CNN poll on Wednesday also found that 56% of Americans disapproved of Trump's handling of the economy, while 44% said they were not. About 1% had no opinion.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted between 1,422 adults in the US from March 11-12. There was a 3 percentage point error among all respondents.
