Most Voters Believe Democrats Favor Open Borders

Survey Reveals That Few Migrants Under Biden Sought Asylum

Poll Reveals Shared Perception on Democratic Immigration Stance

A recent report indicates that a substantial number of Republicans, Democrats, and independent voters believe that the Democratic Party supports open borders. According to a Harvard Harris poll involving 2,009 registered voters, 51% of Democrats, 63% of Republicans, and 52% of independents think that Democrats advocate for unrestricted immigration.

Overall, 56% of respondents agreed with this view, while 44% disagreed.

These findings present a challenge for Democrats, particularly since the same poll noted that 77% of participants support the deportation of criminal immigrants, and 54% favor the deportation of all immigrants. This robust support for deportations resonates with the substantial immigration the Biden administration has welcomed.

Polls also reveal that just 52% of voters believe Democrats actually want to expel violent offenders, even 18 months post-Trump’s second term victory.

The staggering numbers come as Democratic lawmakers appear to prioritize the interests of immigrants over those of American citizens, even as they block funding for ICE deportations until Republicans agree on regulations that would essentially hinder such actions.

While the current political climate remains contentious, the Harvard Harris Poll suggests that voters are more inclined to blame Republicans for issues surrounding immigration, especially given the biased reporting from media outlets that lean Democratic. Only 35% of respondents back the concept of a government shutdown, while 53% attribute the blame to Republicans compared to 47% for Democrats.

Some within the Democratic Party recognize the potential risks of framing themselves too far left and are advocating for a more moderate approach. For instance, President Biden’s immigration secretary has called for a clear commitment to border enforcement, stating that illegally crossing into the country is a crime that must be addressed.

In an article for the progressive Searchlight Institute, Blas Nuñez-Neto emphasized the need for better immigration policies, suggesting that Democrats should facilitate legal avenues for immigrants while being cautious about illegal entries. He noted that welcoming immigrants is crucial for the nation’s growth, though the method of entry is significant.

This significant influx of people raises concerns for the Democratic Party, particularly among white-collar professionals who fear job displacement due to H-1B visa workers. According to a recent poll, one in five U.S. professionals expressed worries about being replaced.

Despite the rhetoric from moderates, Nuñez-Neto’s push seems aligned with interests that pressure lawmakers to attract more immigrants from economically disadvantaged regions, driven by financial motivations from Wall Street. Some Republicans share this perspective as well.

The progressive segment of the Democratic Party also champions expanded immigration policies. For example, an editorial from New Republic argued that mass immigration provides social and economic benefits, labeling it a critical factor in America’s global prominence.

The writer suggested reforms, including eliminating caps on green cards and revising visa regulations to increase legal immigration and improve control over the process.

The backlash against Trump’s deportation policies can also be seen as an implicit critique of his economic strategies, which resulted in rising wages, declining housing costs, and reduced inflation during his administration.

However, various establishment Republicans and their progressive allies oppose these economic reforms. Reports indicate that with a decreased workforce, industries like the restaurant sector will need to offer higher wages to attract employees, with forecasts suggesting a wage increase within the next few years.

This people-centric, pro-wage approach faces opposition from Democrats, who focus instead on elevating living standards through government assistance for both immigrants and citizens.
