A mother from Florida was arrested as she returned home from Las Vegas after authorities claimed she had left her four children unsupervised while she traveled for work. Body camera footage captures deputies meeting Irene Miller at the airport on Friday morning, leading her away in handcuffs.
This incident unfolded two days after one of Miller’s kids dialed 911, reporting that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother’s head, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at Miller’s Kissimmee home around 8:30 p.m. on October 21, discovering the children—ages 9, 11, 12, and 14—home alone. Emergency crews subsequently transported the injured boy to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.
When a deputy contacted Miller via phone, she explained she was working in Las Vegas and intended to return on October 23. It turns out, she had left for her trip on October 18.
Miller mentioned that she had arranged for a babysitter to help the children get ready for school in the mornings and check in on them afterward. However, this sitter was not expected to stay overnight, as noted by the sheriff’s office. Officials eventually reached out to the children’s father, who agreed to take them to his home while plans were made to meet Miller upon her landing.
Ultimately, Miller, 50, was charged with four counts of child neglect and taken to the Orange County Jail. The sheriff emphasized that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office takes child neglect seriously, stating that they will thoroughly investigate such cases and hold parents accountable for failing to properly supervise their children.
