Mother informed emergency services that her 4-year-old daughter was ill from 'drinking milk' as she began to turn blue due to fentanyl poisoning, according to prosecutors.

A mother from Boston has been accused of telling emergency responders that her four-year-old daughter was “drinking milk when she turned blue” while her child was actually dying from fentanyl poisoning, according to information revealed in court on Monday.

Dayanna Familia, 35, faced arraignment in Dorchester after being taken into custody on Saturday concerning the death of her daughter, Liyanna, which occurred on August 17, as reported by NBC 10.

The heartbreaking incident took place on Fuller Street just before 9 p.m. in August, where police attempted to assist the little girl, who later died after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to statements from Boston police.

During the court proceedings, officials indicated that Liyanna had unknowingly consumed fentanyl, something her mother did not disclose to the authorities at that moment.

Prosecutors suggested that Familia fabricated a story about the cause of her daughter’s medical crisis.

She allegedly informed emergency medical personnel, as they worked to save her daughter’s life, that the child was merely drinking milk and might have ingested something from a roach trap, all while it seems she knew the real cause was the dangerous drug, according to the prosecution.

Body cam footage reportedly shows Familia attempting to hide and dispose of a white powder believed to be fentanyl, stated state attorneys.

Additionally, a search warrant executed at her residence revealed the presence of fentanyl.

Familia pleaded not guilty during her arraignment, according to local news. Her lawyer proposed a bail of $10,000, emphasizing the financial consequences it would have on Familia’s family, but the judge set the bail at $250,000 instead.

She is scheduled to return to court on November 20.

An attorney representing Familia has not yet responded to requests for comments.
