After discovering inappropriate messages on her young daughter’s dress, a mother issued a warning to other parents: “Pay close attention to your child’s clothes before making a purchase.”
In a TikTok video, Mama Savannah detailed her experience, sharing that the children’s dresses were adorned with bunnies, jelly beans, and small font messages.
She recalled a moment when her daughter was napping, revealing that she took a peek at the text and was taken aback. The clip went viral, racking up over 23 million views.
Among the unsettling phrases was one that read, “Want to have an Easter egg hunt under the cover?” which raised eyebrows.
Another line read, “This coupon entitles you to one free peep show!” capturing attention for all the wrong reasons.
“Let’s pretend we’re rabbits and do whatever comes to nature,” was another message that raised concerns.
Savannah described what she found as “strange,” recounting a line that stated, “You were the best husband and friend a girl could ever seek.”
Commenters React
The response online was intense, with many commenting “WTF,” reflecting a sense of disbelief that was echoed in over 20,000 replies.
Questions about where to find the dress surfaced, while others labeled it as “intrusive,” “nasty,” and “EW.”
One user remarked, “The world is very perverted right now,” echoing the sentiment of many commenters.
Yet, some suggested it might be an innocent mistake.
Brand Response
Following some online digging, commenters identified the dress as belonging to Lele & Co.
In light of the situation, the company released a statement, expressing regret over the offensive text found on an item sold in their store.
“This particular piece is from a vendor’s resale, and I regret not catching the inappropriate language before listing it,” the statement noted.
“I want to assure everyone that this does not align with my values. We’re taking the necessary legal actions against our vendors,” the statement continued.
The item has already been removed from both the website and all social media channels, with remaining stock being destroyed.
The brand mentioned they are currently in contact with Savannah.
In addition, the statement addressed the backlash: “Despite the negative messages, they won’t lessen the passion that founded our company. I appreciate everyone’s concerns, which allowed me to tackle this issue directly.”
News.com.au has reached out to both Savannah and Lele & Co.
Another Clothing Controversy
This isn’t the first instance of a child’s clothing item going viral for questionable content.
Last December, a child’s Christmas T-shirt from KMART for $8 sparked debate among parents.
It featured a “slight prank” message and the phrase “my prank” on sequins, leading one Australian mother to ask on TikTok, “I’m sorry, what is this, and why is it in the kids’ section?”
Conversely, some argued it wasn’t a big deal, suggesting a misunderstanding around the issue.
As another commenter put it, “There are many hills to die on regarding children’s fashion, but this is not one of them.”
